Atlantis is unusual even by Palm Beach County standards: an entire incorporated city, about 2,000 residents, built around a golf course and enclosed by a gate. It was developed in the 1960s on land west of Lake Worth Beach and incorporated in 1959. There is no downtown, no commercial strip and no through traffic, because the street plan was never designed to carry any.

Atlantis is a small incorporated city west of Lake Worth Beach, built around its golf course from the late 1960s through to the 1990s. The housing is mixed: single-family homes make up the majority of what trades, with condominiums and villas taking a substantial share and a handful of manufactured homes alongside them. The typical home is three bedrooms and two bathrooms in around 2,100 square feet with a two-car garage, mostly single story, in traditional, ranch, colonial and Tudor styles. Around a third have a private pool.
A hospital sits half a mile from the center of the city, the beach is a little over a mile east, the Tri-Rail station just over two miles and a golf course two and a half. Association fees apply across much of the city and vary by product type, which the report below separates.
