History

The first residents of Lake Worth were farmers who had migrated from parts of South America and Mid-West in search of gaining benefit from the winter vegetable market of that time. The city benefited with the rest of South Florida during the Florida land boom of the 1920s. In 1919, a wooden automobile traffic bridge was constructed over Lake Worth after which the areas' first casino and municipal beach complex were opened.

In 1928, the city faced extreme economic decline within the community due to a hurricane. The hurricane caused horrendous damage to the city by destroying the elementary school, Lake Worth Bridge and Beachfront casino. Development started again after World War II when immigrants from Quebec, Finland, and Germany brought their industrious nature with them as well as their native customs.

Location

Lake Worth has a population of 37,000 residents and 7 square miles and borders West Palm Beach to the north, and Lantana to the south. It is 60 miles (97 km) north of Downtown Miami. The city has a total area of 6.46 square miles. 5.64 square miles of it is land and 0.86 square miles of it is water. As Lake Worth is a small area, most of its urbanized area with a Lake Worth postal address lies to the west of the city and includes the census-designated place of Lake Worth Corridor.

Weather

The number of days with any precipitation is 99. On average the city has 239 sunny days per year during which month of July is the hottest. The temperature rises up to 89 ° F. The lowest temperature is experienced in January approximately 59 ° F. The comfort index, based on humidity during hot months is 27 out 0f 100 while the United States average has 44.

In winters, the temperature remains above 50° overnight. Frosty weather can only be seen during December and January. The rest of the months are either moderately hot or very hot.  Lake Worth experiences no snowfall due to its tropical weather.

SCUBA DIVING

Angelfish,  Turtles, Dolphins,  Parrotfish,  Grouper,  dolphins, soft and hard corals along with excellent visibility provide divers with great year-round conditions.  South Florida's reef tract is linear and the warm Gulf stream current flows parallel to the shoreline creating perfect drift diving conditions.

Palm Beach County has some of the top dive sites in the country.  Many of the sites are close to shore, so you don't have to spend hours traveling out on a boat to reach them.  Palm Beach has a lot of, deeper dives and nearby Pompano has more shallow dives. The South East Florida Reef Tract extends from Miami northward to Palm Beach. Greater Ft. Lauderdale accounts for 23 miles in the middle of the tract and the largest number of dive sites, with over 100 reef and wreck sites. Hundreds of species of fish flourish along the coast.

Artificial reefs include sunken wrecks since marine life likes to hide out in protected spaces so you will get the eerie and mysterious beauty of exploring a wreck that has dozens of fish and corals that are on or near it.

DOG PARKS

Dog parks provide great spaces for dogs to socialize and get some robust running and fetching time in.  It also ends up being a great way for humans to socialize and get outdoors as well. If you do to a dog park, there is no guarantee that your dog won’t get in a fight. Even if your Fido is on his best behavior if another dog provokes him, then he will defend himself. It’s best to avoid the weekends at Dog Parks here since they tend to fill up even more and there ends up being frequented with doggies that are not as well socialized, so there are the occasional dog fights which are typical at any dog park since there are no dog police or referees to prevent this.
