Boynton Beach is a city located in Palm Beach County, Florida. HISTORY

It was 1894 that a former Civil War major from Michigan named Nathan Boynton first saw the pristine beach-front area that now has his name.  He was so impressed by the natural beauty of what he saw, the year-round sunshine and stunning beaches, that he returned a year later with a group of colonists and he built the famous Boynton Hotel in 1897 to serve as his family's summer residence.

In 1898 Fredrick Sidney Dewey and Byrd Spilman Dewey founded the original Town Of Boynton; in 1920 Boynton was incorporated. In 1931, it was renamed from the Town of Boynton to Boynton Beach. Addison Mizner designed the Boynton Beach Woman’s Club building that is still in use today and listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

The first settlers soon realized that an unlimited assortment of fruits and vegetables thrived in the fertile climate, so they started to cultivate pineapples, tomatoes, mangos, oranges, lemons, grapefruits and limes to ship all over the country.

Boynton Beach was not known at all around the rest of the country until after World War II.  Soldiers returning home from the war discovered that the small unknown town located only fifty miles north of Miami was an ideal healthy place to raise a family with glorious weather all year round and with a fertile climate.  Boynton's proximity to the Atlantic's Gulfstream soon yielded a bonanza of world-record catches.

Boynton Beach has grown steadily with the population rising from 5,000 in 1959 to the present number of almost 70,000 residents. Boynton Beach has expanded wisely, retaining the charm of orange groves, fishing marina, and sandy beaches.

For those that love the great outdoors,  the City of Boynton Beach operates eight recreation centers, 29 parks, a municipal swimming pool, a municipal beach, and lots of youth, teen, adult and senior programs at park community centers.

ARTS AND ENTERTAINMENT

The City founded, " Art in Public Places" which commissions Public Art Pieces to create a stimulating cultural landscape that reflects and enhances Boynton Beach’s heritage and character.  The Program strives to include works of art in new developments as well as community areas, improving public spaces and incentivizing the creation of unique landmarks.

Canyon Town Center is located just 1/2 mile west of Florida's Turnpike on Boynton Beach Boulevard.  It has an interactive fountain that is loads of fun for kids and the Amphitheater for events such as live music, performances, family fun days, karaoke and movies under the stars. Palm Beach County's coastal waters are scattered with natural coral formations that are part of the Florida Reef Tract which is third largest in the world. Creating additional areas for fishing, diving, and snorkeling protects natural reefs from overuse.  These "artificial reefs" are most often made out of limestone, concrete, and occasionally decommissioned ships that become beautiful marine habitats for algae, corals, and other marine life and sunken, mysterious wonders for divers to explore.   Palm Beach County has set aside manatee, mangrove, sea grass and sea turtle zones that restrict development. 

Lofthus - Underwater Archaeological Preserve
The Lofthus is a vessel that wrecked off Manalapan in 1898. In 2003, the ship was dedicated and listed in the National Register of Historic Places. The historic site is a favorite among area divers.

The Schoolhouse Children's Museum & Learning Center

Experience South Florida's history by roaming and running around two floors of hands-on, interactive exhibits that will bring out curious little hands and infectious giggles.   Shrnken humans can learn art, music, the sciences and more through FREE weekly programs as well as affordable education classes and specialty workshops.

The goal of our exhibits is to provide a kid-friendly glimpse of life for early Sunshine State Pioneers – before the days of computers, cell phones, televisions or even cars.

To build, create and survive, the first Florida settlers had to master physical resources around them. At the Schoolhouse, children will be surrounded by child-sized replicas of those, which will provide them with a historically-based, sensory learning experience.

Boynton Beach Municipal Park

Boynton's main beach, Oceanfront Park, is north of Ocean Avenue on State Road A1A. The facility is open seven days a week, 365 days a year and is manned by trained and experienced lifeguards.  Clean and well-maintained with separate barbecue and picnic area, concessions, and restrooms.

Ocean Inlet Park
Located south of the Boynton Beach Inlet and just east of A1A with almost 1000 feet of Intracoastal Waterway frontage, rental boat slips, charter boats, picnic facilities, fishing, snack bar and children's play area just west of A1A.

Gulfstream Park

The restaurant is beautifully decorated inside, and since it's relatively small, there is a sense of intimacy and quiet. There are scores of local places to get your Maki and Ono rolls, but Sushi Simon should be at the top of your list if you are serious about your sushi.  It's not the cheapest place, but if you like good sushi, you know words cheap and sushi should never be in the same sentence.

Agliolio is not high-end or upscale, but it is casual and family-friendly with inexpensive price points & a menu based on mix & match pasta, sauces, pizzas, and proteins, etc.  The dining room is inviting and modern.

The menu consists of many "Pasta-Bilities." You pick your sauce, pasta, protein, personal pizzas & main dishes.  You can eat like a health-nut or a glutton here, grilled or fried, creamy sauce or heart-friendly vinagrettes. The menu is gluten-sensitive and vegan options are available too. The bread is delicious and messy.  Everything is homemade; pasta, soup, bread, sauces, they are all made in-house on a daily basis.

Even though the menu is mixing & matching they have quite a few unique pasta & sauce options. For example, spinach roasted garlic linguine, 100% whole wheat fusilli, organic quinoa, and zoodles (not a typo, this is spiraled zucchini).   Don't feel like getting wasted?   There are plenty of mouth-watering "mocktails" such as a muddled berry limeade.

Don't bust your gut with so much delicious eggplant parmesan that you don't reserve stomach space for cannoli chips or chocolate lasagna.

Feeling under-the-weather and like you need something warm and exotic but comforting at the same time?  Buenos Dias HotPot!

With a history of several thousand years,   HotPots vary from region to region in China. The common meats used include pork, beef, chicken but vegetables, mushrooms, and noodles making an appearance as well.  From Beijing to Boynton Beach, HotPot is intended to be a fun and interactive dinner for your family, friends, or your special date.

Ambience-wise there is a mix of traditional Asian and modern decor that is bright and cheery.  A fan favorite is the purveyor belt that goes throughout the restaurant with delicious fresh ingredients to add to your Hotpot.   The belt itself brings fresh herbs, veggies, and noodles for you to put into your pot.  You can also just walk up to the buffet to concoct your HotPot bonanza.  This is a culinary experience in comfort, adventure, and creativity.

HotPot offers many soup broths of your choosing.   For those steamy Florida nights, you can get a “Cool Boy” broth which consists of pork bone broth topped with fresh Golgi berries and scallions. The “Hot Girl” broth which has a hot Sichuan Spicy flavor and topped with fresh chopped jalapenos and scallions.

Plenty of vegan-friendly options are here as well.  Have fun mixing your sauces at the Sauce Bar, which offers a variety of options including fresh chopped cilantro, scallions, and jalapenos. Other options include the homemade garlic sauce and hot chili oil.

This place is an exceptional value and highly memorable.  They have fresh frog legs, octopus, squid, fresh meats, and seafood if you want something besides the cliche beef or chicken. Also in the same plaza, there is a good bubble tea and rolled ice cream dessert shop.

Sweetwater is not the place to go for recovering alcoholics, sorry  A.A. members.  If you appreciate an expensive drink that is expertly crafted and on the exotic and highly-unusual side then this is the place for you.    If you are just looking for a cheap beer, then this is also not the place for you.

The bartenders here are more like mad chemists and the libations here are nothing short of being the nectar of the Gods.   There is over 100k worth of fine wine, spirits and liquors here in this postage-stamp-size establishment.  The menu features dozens of small-production flavored gins, rums, tequilas, single-malt scotches, bourbons and beers with drinks named things like, "Death and Taxes," "Mexican Cockfight," "Spanish Inquisition.  

Walk-into a cozy bar and grill that manages to generate that spark that turns a roomful of strangers into friends.   The food here is geared towards a discerning palate that can be described as Contemporary International Cuisine since it blends flavors from the Middle East,  South Pacific,  Europe and Asia, but served with a modern American sensibility for a sophisticated palate.

Order your drink then pair it with a dish called "Australian Lollipops."   Other impressive choices include pan-seared lamp chops with house hummus and finished off with sautéed chickpeas, spinach and tzatziki, lobster mac n cheese, skirt steak,  venison ravioli, and tuna tartare.  If your mouth isn’t watering at this point, we’d also recommend getting a physical, because you have no pulse.

The vibe at Sweetwater is very cool, dark and cozy yet trendy, with sleek lines and a slight industrial theme— a fascinating combination of look and feel.

NIGHTLIFE

Boynton Beach has never been the life of the party but the city has  started to develop a nighttime entertainment destination compared to its neighbors in Delray Beach and West
Palm Beach.

City officials hope to attract Palm Beach parties with the recent opening of Smoke Inn Casa de Montecristo, a full-service bar and cigar shop in north Boynton's Quantum Park.
