Oakland Park sits directly north of Fort Lauderdale and has spent the last decade turning its Dixie Highway corridor into a Culinary Arts District, with breweries and restaurants in what were warehouses. It incorporated in 1929 as Floranada, and its housing is largely 1950s and 1960s single-family homes, a good number of which have been substantially rebuilt.
The eastern neighborhoods reach toward the Intracoastal and carry the highest prices; the western side toward Powerline Road is more affordable, with a larger share of condominiums and villas.
